Motorsport

Motorsports are any races that involve the use of motorized vehicles. Of these Formula One racing is the most popular. This type of racing refers to the use of open wheeled single seat cars in which the wheels are outside of the body of the car. This motorsport is highly regulated. There are sporting regulations that cover the race itself and how it is to be run. The technical regulations cover the specifications of the cars, such as the engine, transmission and suspension.

Stock car racing is mainly carried out in the US, Canada and Britain on oval tracks. Stock cars are ordinary cars that have been modified, but they are nothing like the racecars used in Formula One racing. They usually have race-tuned V8 engines developing 650bhp, quick axle changes and gearboxes, biased and staggered chassis and braking systems that allow for quick left turns.

Touring car racing is another category that used production derived racecars. In the US production car racing is called showroom racing. Rallying involves two different classes of cars. In the first group, production cars that are legal to use on the road are involved in racing and in the second group, the cars used are called Group N cars, which are cars with modifications. They usually compete off-road.

Targa racing is a road rally run all over the world. Drag racing is a race between two vehicles for a designated distance using all types of vehicles. It is not the same as street racing, which takes place on a public road and is illegal. Other types of motorsports include:

In a demolition derby the object of the race is to ram the vehicles into one another until there is only one vehicle left in operation.
