Motorbike Racing
Motorbike racing refers to any events involving motorcycles and motorized bikes, such as dirt bikes. Not all the events in this type of motorsports involves racing because some of them involve tests of skill and daring. Motorcycle racing does involve contests of speed in tarmac based races and of-road races.
Other motorbike races include:
- Rallies. A rally is a motorbike event in which riders have to navigate public roads and stop at a variety of checkpoints in different geographic locations along the way. There are multiple drivers in this event with riders changing at checkpoints.
- Land Speed. This is a top speed race run over a 1 – 3 mile straight track. Riders are timed for top speed. There are records set for the races that riders try to beat.
- Freestyle Motocross. This is an event in which riders win the competition by accumulating the highest number of points based on their acrobatic abilities on a motorbike.
- Trials. Even though they are not exactly races, they are motorbike sporting events. In this event a rider attempts to traverse a section without having to place his/her foot on the ground. There is a time limit and the person who completes the course in the fastest time sets the standard that all other riders try to beat. The fastest rider may not necessarily be the winner. One of the most well known of these events is the Scott Trial, which is an annual event in North Yorkshire. There are versions of this event that are also held indoors, as well as long-distance trials.
Motorcycle rallies draw hundreds of riders and hundreds of thousands of spectators. Although these rallies are held all over the world, most of them take place in the United Kingdom. The point of such an event is to travel to a specific destination by motorcycle and meet up with old friends. You also make new friends in the process. Prizes are awarded in various categories. One of the famous rallies in the UK is the Bull Dog Dash in Stratford-upon-Avon.
